ADATA SE770G external storage review, Is Adata external hard drive good?

Our reviews of storage units aren't finished yet before you ask. We're still here to evaluate all of the new SSDs being launched, but today we're going to review the latest ADATA laptops. Today we are in the process of reviewing the new SE770G from one of the most well-known storage unit manufacturers worldwide.

Yes, the shape of this unit qualifies it to enter the XPG world in which ADATA offers the latest storage solutions, memories, accessories and coolers due to its shape. But… Today we will be reviewing a "normal" module from ADATA and it is not placed under its XPG umbrella, which is why I must remember every time I look at the unit's lights while I review it, it comes only from ADATA.

Let me remind you before we start our review that external storage is no less important than internal storage now. We are in the data age and we have become in the age of speed, which is why we need units to transfer data between all devices that we own at high speed because we do not have much time in the grinding conditions of life.

The grinding conditions of life? Too exaggerated expression, right? Did not matter! Let's get to the heart of the matter!

ADATA SE770G Module design

The SE770G comes with a design that's nothing new to ADATA. This unit reminds me of the same manufacturer HD770G, but the HD770G was a hard disk unit unlike the one in front of me now. Of course, there is a difference in the design because hard disk units are designed around everything differently, and this is due to the nature of the mechanical unit.

It differs with this unit because it is smaller in size, but it did not do without the stunning RGB lights and reinforced with strong rubber to protect it from shocks. The interface of the unit provides a distinctive design in terms of RGB, which comes in a "pattern" of cubes attached to each other and lights them when the unit is installed in the device that will host it.

The lighting is very elegant and changes during the operation of the unit, which means that it is not fixed in any way. The back of the unit is covered with shock-resistant rubber that surrounds the sides and back of the unit. The front part doesn't come with these boosters, and here comes the question. What would happen if this unit fell on the front instead of the rear?

I will not answer this question because I will not throw it at the editors team in our headquarters as I did with the HD770G unit, which was armed from all sides and because I am not ready to lose my position in Arab Hardware after I destroy it, but the question remains.

In my view, it would have covered all parts of the unit and provided RGB lighting at the same time, but it wouldn't be the same. We could have seen some luminous streaks in the sides and in the crevices of the rubber itself, but ADATA has clearly taken an interest in the shape and I don't mind that too much.

I don't mind because many units come with bodies that are clearly lighter than this unit and are very popular in the hardware market, so I can't count ADATA for that because it is promoting the SE770G SSD on the basis of shape first, and in terms of shape ... great.

Below the unit, we only find the USB Type-C port for this unit and we do not find any other connections. The unit comes with two cables that connect to this outlet, but one of them comes with Type-C connections and the second comes with Type-A connections.

The specifications of this unit are summarized as follows:

This unit only comes in two capacities. We have the terabyte version and there is a second copy with a capacity of only 512 GB. I don't like this because I am not used to ADATA providing only two capacities in its storage units, but it is possible to see other capacities over time as we can see with many units.

This unit takes advantage of the USB 3.2 second-generation interface, which delivers up to 10 Gbps, that is, up to 1.25 Gbps at the highest possible speed. This interface that works through the inputs of Type-C provided a read speed of 1000 mbps and 800 mbps for reading data.

The unit is compatible with all operating systems without exception. For computers, Microsoft systems from Windows 8 through Windows 10 are supported, Linux distributions based on version 2.6 are supported, and Mac computers can use this unit starting with macOS X 10.6.

Mobile devices will also enjoy these units very naturally. Android devices running Android 5.0 and later can handle this unit, but for iPad devices, they are not officially supported by the factory, but they can enjoy this unit according to what we know.

Since it is an external storage device based on the USB 3.2 second-generation interface for the best possible speeds for an external SSD, we must provide it with an operating platform capable of working with this interface very naturally. This is where the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X processor socket comes in the MSI Godlike X570 chip. The memories that will help us are T-Force Xcalibur with a capacity of 16 GB and a frequency of 3600 MHz.

The programming conditions provided for this unit are:

  • Using Windows 10 Pro.
  • Activate the Windows Write Cache feature.
  • Working on the High Performance power system inside the operating system.

We will test this unit with a random read and write process to see the unit's performance fully and also check its temperatures while working to see if it sacrifices temperatures as protection from shocks or not.

With data reading speed of 995MB per second and writing of 893MB per second, we can say that this unit has fulfilled its promise to act as stated by ADATA. I can only say that this unit offers a great experience compared to many of the units in our market now.

The unit did not sacrifice temperatures with the addition of RGB lights or wrapped it with anti-shock rubber, and this is because its temperature did not exceed 41 degrees Celsius, and I can only say that it deserves praise for its temperature preservation. This is our coolest unit in our external storage tests.

The company has not yet disclosed the price of this unit at the time of publishing this review, but we will update it when we know its price. But, apart from the price, I can say that this unit is very useful due to its relatively compact size and protection with shock-proof rubber.

Let's get RGB lighting on that SSD because it's a matter of tastes. We've seen lots of lights in a lot of hardware, but what ADATA has to offer in this unit still leaves me unconvinced that it's not under the XPG umbrella. The lighting design is really cool and eye-catching, but the lighting is not so high that you are distracted from what you're doing because of it, which is why I pick up the hat for ADATA.

This SSD will, in my view, be useful to many users. If you want to put video games that you do not use continuously, games of the old generation platforms to speed up the download process, transfer large video clips to edit them or edit clips directly from them, or even transfer your business data to your cell phone, tablet device or between various devices.

I can easily recommend this unit to you, but wait until we know its price. I was hoping to see some different capacities such as 2 and 4 terabytes, and there was no objection to the 250 GB too. In all cases, 512 or 1 terabyte capacity is the best-selling capacity, but everyone's needs must be covered.

Full use of its second generation USB 3.2 interface.

Excellent performance with writing and reading.

An even and not very high temperature

Nice design and quiet at the same time.

There are only 2 spaces from this unit.

The front end is unprotected, unlike the sides and back.
